Basically, mindfulness involves training the mind to work more wisely with thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. For the therapist, this means being more fully present and aware of what is going on in the therapy session. For the client, this means being more consciously aware of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors within the session and throughout the day. Use of mindfulness helps to discard old, unconscious, maladaptive patterns.
The workshop will provide an overview of current evidence-based mindfulness interventions, which includes Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We will also discuss how mindfulness techniques can be used with individual clients to help deal with stress, anxiety, depression, cravings, and chronic pain.
This workshop will include lecture, discussion, and guided practice of mindfulness techniques.
